When “Hallyu idols” TVXQ and SNSD took to the stage, the millennia-old ancient city Gyeongju was turned upside down.
Through passionate performances, approximately 20 groups of idols such as TVXQ, 2PM, GD&TOP mesmerized 20,000 fans at the “2011 Hallyu Dream Concert” held at the Gyeongju Citizens’ Stadium, in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongju on October 3rd.
Hallyu idols turned out in full force to make this day seem like a concert. At the stadium, other than local fans, there were approximately 5,000 overseas fans who gathered, adding to the significance of the event. Fans of TVXQ, SNSD and SM Entertainment singers gathered in front of the stadium 6 hours before admission and did cover dances etc, sparking off passionate cheers and heightening the atmosphere.
The first performance was kicked off by ZE:A. Later, A-Pink, Secret, Miss A and 4Minute appeared in sequence, singing their hit songs and heating up the atmosphere. The group who lit up the ending of Part 1 was Big Bang’s unit, GD&TOP. Through their 2 songs, “High High” and “Oh Yeah”, they drove the crowd into wild excitement.
For Part II, the trio of singers originally from “Superstar K”, Seo In Guk, Gil Hak Mi and Kim Bo Kyung kicked off the show. Following that, new Hallyu idols who have been very active in Japan recently, T-ara and Beast etc took to the stage. The highlights of this event, SM Entertainment singers SHINee, SNSD and TVXQ then appeared.Particularly, through “Maximum” and “Why (Keep Your Head Down)”, the pioneer Hallyu idols, TVXQ, received the greatest cheers amongst all the singers who participated on that day. The ending stage was taken on by “Nation’s Singer”, Kim Gun Mo, who had recently made a comeback. The festival ended amidst his medley of songs, which started off with his new song “A Sadder Today Than Yesterday” and included hit songs like “Excuses” etc.
Natsumi (28), who revealed that she had come from Japan, Tokyo to watch this event, said, “After TVXQ, I also became a fan of SNSD. Performances from Korean idols have a different standard.”
A representative from the Korean Entertainment Producers’ Association revealed, “It is a unique feeling to be able to host an event in Gyeongju, the city which carries a thousand years of history. The Hallyu wave which has been proliferating all over the world has even been able to create an impact on the regional economy. We’re trying to find different ways to spread this wave.”
“Hallyu Dream Festival” coincides with the “Visit Korea Year” and is a joint collaboration between the Korean Entertainment Producers’ Association and the Committee for the “Visit Korea Year” in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongju. There was a 3-day festival for local and overseas tourists, which then ended off with this concert on the last day.
